the pyramid of success

The Pyramid of Success
John Wooden
25 blocks

Block 1: Industriousness
Image result for Industriousness"There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning."
I have not heard of or read about any individual anywhere who achieved real success without working extremely hard. In fact, the great successes we all know about are individuals who almost always have greatly outworked their competition.

Block 2: Enthusiasm

"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."

Image result for FriendshipBlock 3: Friendship
"Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."

Block 4: Loyalty: "To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."
Image result for Loyalty something any good person needs weather it being for friendship or a relationship loyalty is always needed. Knowing that someone has loyalty to you is something great but one little mess up and you could lose it and once you loss someone's loyalty you can pretty much never get it back fully. So if someone had given their loyalty to you don't over do it because it's a great thing to have. Loyalty is a gift so enjoy it and don't overuse it because soon you won't be able to have it and people will have less self-respect for you.To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Be determined. Be tenacious. Be unrelenting. The road to achievement is rocky, hard, and long. Things easily achieved are rarely long-lasting or significant.

Block 10: Intentness

Intentness is the thing that keeps a person reaching for the next achievement to make each possibility a reality.Realizing that the road to their achievement could be difficult and certain adversity may force you to change the method of attack. You may have to go around, under, over, back up, look the situation over. But you must not quit. Be intent persistent and determined to reach your realistic objective.

Image result for honesty quotesBlock 16: Honesty (in thought and action)
"Honesty is the best policy." (Ben Franklin)

Honesty is the quality of being honest.Honesty is going to take you places in life that you never could have dreamed and it’s the easiest thing you can practice in order to be happy, successful and fulfilled. Honesty is part of the foundation of my core values and principles. Honesty cuts through deception and knifes its way through deceit and lies. Honesty leads to a fulfilling, free life.Honesty is not just about telling the truth. It’s about being real with yourself and others about who you are, what you want and what you need to live your most authentic life. Honesty promotes openness, empowers us and enables us to develop consistency in how we present the facts. Honesty sharpens our perception and allows us to observe everything around us with clarity.

“Make the most out of what you have.” (Anonymous)
"If you have a dream, if you have something you've always wanted to do, look within yourself because that is where resourcefulness resides; and go for it. (Jennifer Witterick)
Being resourceful is extremely important to making progress in life. The ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties. Many like to complain and find fault rather than being resourceful with what they have.

Being a honest man is to be true to yourself and others around you. Trust is gained through honesty for example telling the truth and not lying to yourself and others. When others trust you as a person you are now a reliable person who people can trust and respect. A reliable person holds a great responsibility and must accomplish what is necessary.

Block 23: Integrity (purity of intention) Integrity in its simplest form is purity of intention. Its keeping a clean conscience. But it is also a composite of some of the other mortar qualities in the pyramid. To some extent integrity contains a bit of reliability.A healthy helping of honesty and a portion of sincerity. I believe that the component of purity of intention is important enough to give integrity the status of mortar in its own right.

Innovation of Election Vehicles

The new private players in urban transportation have learned to be careful about appearing to oppose public transit at least, most of the time.  Uber is making a point of supporting some of the biggest transit tax proposals in the country.  Lyft wants you to know that they’re “friends with transit.”  These companies know that they rely on an urban, educated political base on people who can figure out for themselves that shifting lots of people from big vehicles into small ones is not the way to improve congestion, emissions, or pretty much anything that matters.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Habit 1:Be Proactive

"Habit is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the captain of my life.I can choose my attitude.I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny' not just a passenger."

Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
"Control your own destiny or someone else will."(Jake Welch)

So, what do you want to be when you grow up? That question may appear a little trite, but think about it for a moment. Are you--right now--who you want to be, what you dreamed you'd be, doing what you always wanted to do? Be honest. Sometimes people find themselves achieving victories that are empty--successes that have come at the expense of things that were far more valuable to them. If your ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step you take gets you to the wrong place faster.

Habit 3: Put First Things First
"Organize and execute around priorities."
Habit 3 is Personal Management, the exercise of independent will to create a life congruent with your values, goals and mission. The fourth human endowment, Independent Will, is the ability to make decisions and choices and act upon them. Integrity is our ability to make and keep commitments to ourselves. Management involves developing the specific application of the ideas. We should lead from the right brain (creatively) and manage from the left brain (analytically).

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

"Think win-win or no deal."

Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
"Diagnose before you prescribe."
When another person is speaking, we usually "listen" at one of four levels: ignoring, pretending, selective listening, or attentive listening. We should be using the fifth, highest form of listening emphatic listening.Active or reflective listening is skill-based and often insults the speaker. Emphatic listening is listening with intent to understand the other person's frame of reference and feelings. You must listen with your ears, your eyes and your heart. Emphatic listening is a tremendous deposit into the emotional bank account. It's deeply therapeutic and healing because it gives a person "psychological air."Next to physical survival, the greatest need of a human being is psychological survival - to be understood, to be affirmed, to be validated, and to be appreciated. Emphatic listening is risky. It takes a great deal of security to go into a deep listening experience because you open yourself up to being influenced. You become vulnerable. In order to have influence, you must be influenced.

Habit 6: Synergize
"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)"
The essence of synergy is to value and respect differences, to build on strengths and to compensate for weaknesses. The author says that many of us haven’t actually experienced synergy in our family lives or in other interactions. We’ve been shaped into defensive and protective communications or into believing that life or other people can’t be trusted. Therefore we have a tendency to not open up to this highly effective principle which requires enormous personal security and openness and a spirit of adventure.

Habit 7:  Sharpen the Saw

Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional
As you renew yourself in each of the four areas, you create growth and change in your life. Sharpen the Saw keeps you fresh so you can continue to practice the other six habits. You increase your capacity to produce and handle the challenges around you. Without this renewal the body becomes weak, the mind mechanical, the emotions raw, the spirit insensitive, and the person selfish.
